Drain — Correcting Incorrect Fall
Define the finished purpose, reference levels, underlying material condition and the evidence required by the receiving operation. Geometry alone does not establish structural or agronomic performance.
This reference assembles relevant extracts from the guide library. It is general project planning, not a local project report, verified specification or translated technical publication.
Incorrect Fall
Fall is the change in elevation along a defined direction. An incorrect fall can include a reversal, an insufficient gradient or a gradient that differs from the design.
Before moving material
Identify the start and end points, distance and elevation reference.
Receiving operation and checks
Measure the corrected profile independently. Check intermediate points because correct end levels can still hide a local dip.
There is no universal drainage fall appropriate to every project.

Crossfall controls the change in level across a road, path or other surface. A correct centreline does not prove that the edges drain correctly.
Before moving material
Measure the cross-section at the affected location.
Receiving operation and checks
Check the corrected section and the neighbouring transition sections. Verify both edges and any gutter or drain connection.
Do not infer a road crossfall specification from a generic illustration.
Read the complete Incorrect Crossfall guideHigh Spots
A high spot is meaningful only relative to the intended surface. It may obstruct runoff, limit cultivation depth or sit above a construction formation. Cutting it without knowing the target can remove useful soil unnecessarily.
Before moving material
Measure the feature against surrounding levels and the agreed datum.
Receiving operation and checks
Recheck the corrected level and restore the appropriate surface layer. Check whether the high spot was a local deposit or part of the intended contour.
A visible mound is not automatically a defect.
