Subgrade Area — Survey Data Required

Define the finished purpose, reference levels, underlying material condition and the evidence required by the receiving operation. Geometry alone does not establish structural or agronomic performance.

This reference assembles relevant extracts from the guide library. It is general project planning, not a local project report, verified specification or translated technical publication.

Rough Earthworks

Rough earthworks may still contain broad quantity errors, loose fill and unresolved drainage. Fine trimming should begin only after the larger formation is understood.

Before moving material

Survey the bulk surface and identify unsuitable or unaccepted areas.

Receiving operation and checks

Verify the corrected formation before the next layer. Check areas where bulk machines turned, stockpiled or discharged material.

A finish pass cannot establish the suitability of buried fill.

Uneven Subgrade

Uneven subgrade can create variable thickness in every layer above it. Correcting the surface is useful only if the underlying support is acceptable.

Before moving material

Identify soft areas and compare formation levels with design.

Receiving operation and checks

Complete compaction and specified acceptance checks. Check levels before base material conceals the subgrade.

A scraper does not replace proof testing or project-specific investigation.

Surveying for Land Grading

Surveying for grading establishes the relationship between the site and the intended surface. Machine guidance can assist work, but the survey determines the reference against which results are checked.

Before moving material

Define the survey area, control and required deliverables.

Receiving operation and checks

Use the survey to prepare the design and later acceptance checks. Retain the datum, units and control-point descriptions.

A topographic survey and a legal boundary survey serve different purposes.

Record the job inputs

Use this checklist to turn the scenario into a specific brief. Retain the design revision and agree who accepts each completed layer.

Checklist ticks apply only while this page is open. Include the completed brief in your project records.
