Machine Will Not Cut — Cause

Define the finished purpose, reference levels, underlying material condition and the evidence required by the receiving operation. Geometry alone does not establish structural or agronomic performance.

This reference assembles relevant extracts from the guide library. It is general project planning, not a local project report, verified specification or translated technical publication.

Cut, Collect, Carry, Place & Grade

Cutting, collecting, carrying, placing and grading are different tasks. A machine that drags material forward does not necessarily carry a contained load to a distant low area. Break the earthworks into these actions so the route, implement and checking method match the actual work.

Before moving material

Survey high areas, receiving areas and obstacles before loading.

Receiving operation and checks

Recheck levels before another layer or another operation covers the work. Track the destination of material as well as the appearance of the cut.

Material suitability, safe towing and compaction requirements remain separate decisions.

Machine Before - Dugong - Machine After

The machine before Dugong determines what material arrives; the machine after Dugong determines what surface must leave. An excavator can expose formation, a loader can deliver a stockpile, and a roller can compact the placed layer. The scraper's role is bounded by those interfaces.

Before moving material

Identify the upstream operation and its remaining defects.

Receiving operation and checks

Hand over the measured surface to compaction, cultivation, paving or turf preparation. Record which operation owns levels, materials and final acceptance.

The workflow can include Dugong where suitable; it does not assume Dugong replaces adjacent equipment.

Excessive Cut-to-Fill Distance

Excessive cut-to-fill distance increases travel time and can make a small-load method inefficient. The first remedy may be better material balancing rather than a larger implement.

Before moving material

Map the cuts, fill deficits and usable haul routes.

Receiving operation and checks

Verify quantities and finish after the selected movement plan. Time a realistic trial including empty return and turns.

Nominal travel speed cannot establish job productivity.
