Project reference 00117

Surveying for Land Grading

Define the finished purpose, reference levels, underlying material condition and the evidence required by the receiving operation. Geometry alone does not establish structural or agronomic performance.

This reference assembles relevant extracts from the guide library. It is general project planning, not a local project report, verified specification or translated technical publication.

Surveying for Land Grading

Surveying for grading establishes the relationship between the site and the intended surface. Machine guidance can assist work, but the survey determines the reference against which results are checked.

Before moving material

Define the survey area, control and required deliverables.

Receiving operation and checks

Use the survey to prepare the design and later acceptance checks. Retain the datum, units and control-point descriptions.

A topographic survey and a legal boundary survey serve different purposes.

Laser Land Grading

Laser land grading references elevation to a transmitter-defined plane or gradient arrangement. It can be useful where the required surface fits that reference, provided setup and receiver geometry are controlled.

Before moving material

Confirm the target surface and transmitter/receiver compatibility.

Receiving operation and checks

Check finished levels independently of the receiver display. Watch for reference movement, blocked reception and incorrect offsets.

No accuracy figure is promised without the specified system and working conditions.

GPS Land Grading

GPS-based grading uses positioning information in relation to a design or reference surface. Ordinary navigation positioning should not be treated as a precision earthworks control system.

Before moving material

Identify the positioning equipment, corrections and design requirements.

Receiving operation and checks

Verify the achieved surface separately. Record correction status and any loss of usable positioning during work.

A satellite receiver alone does not establish vertical grading accuracy.

Record the job inputs

Use this checklist to turn the scenario into a specific brief. Retain the design revision and agree who accepts each completed layer.

Checklist ticks apply only while this page is open. Include the completed brief in your project records.
